Delegation of National Parliament and local governments of Azerbaijan visits Latvia

At invitation from the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments (LALRG), from March 8 to March 11, delegation of representatives of Parliament Regional committee and local governments from Azerbaijan visits Latvia. The aim of this visit is to facilitate experience exchange and cooperation on state and local government level. During its visit, the delegation meets with representatives of Saeima, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, as well as local governments which develop cooperation links with local governments in Azerbaijan.

On Wednesday, March 9 the delegation visited the LALRG and met with LALRG Chairman Mr Andris Jaunsleinis and Secretary General Mudīte Priede. The Chairman presented local government financial decentralization system in Latvia and answered numerous questions from Azerbaijani colleagues. Mr Jaunsleinis emphasized that “Decentralization plays a crucial role in implementation of public management reforms by developing autonomous and democratic local governments, enabled to perform their duties efficiently.’
