LALRG in Kyrgyzstan shares its experience in representing local government interests

On 16-21 August the delegation of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments (LALRG) visits Kyrgyzstan in the framework of the project "Development of Local Governments and Promoting Good Governance in Kyrgyzstan". 

The Latvian delegation includes Gints Kaminskis, Chairman of the LALRG, Mudīte Priede, Secretary General of the LALRG, Elita Kresse, Adviser on Foreign Affairs of the LALRG, Hardijs Vents, Chairman of Pārgauja Municipality Council and Tālis Šelengovs, Deputy Chairman of Amata Municipality Council.

During the visit Latvian delegation attended the seminar organised by Development Policy Institute on the development of public administration and local authorities in Kyrgyzstan, as well as on the delegation of state functions. Gints Kaminskis and Mudīte Priede introduced to the participants of the seminar the experience of LALRG in representing the interests of local governments, formulating a common vision and working together to establish a dialogue with the national parliament, government and all interested parties.

The delegation of Latvia also went to three municipalities - Cholpon-Ata, Kum Bel and Bulan Sogottu where they had meetings with representatives of municipalities. During the visits Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between local governments of Latvia and Kyrgyzstan were signed

Project partners had also the meeting of the Steering Committee in Bishkek to identify problem issues, make decisions and start to plan the study visit to Latvia of the representatives from Association of Local Government of Kyrgyzstan, local governments and the national government.

The LALRG implements the project "Development of Local Governments and Promoting Good Governance in Kyrgyzstan" which is funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia in 2018 from the budget of the development cooperation. The aim of the project is to facilitate good governance in Kyrgyzstan by strengthening the capacity of the local governments and the Association of Local Government of Kyrgyzstan.
