Two seminars of the project “Networking for Efficiency and Development” in Georgia

On 3 – 8 September, two seminars were held in Georgia within the framework of the project "Network building for efficiency and development". Representatives of Latvian Association of Local and Regional governments (LALRG) participated in seminar with several presentations. Both seminars took place in Kachreti Village of the Kakheti region. 

On 3 – 6 September, a training seminar for experts from the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) about Community Lead Local Development (CLLD) – how to organize CLLD process and citizen participation in this process and the role of local government in CLLD. Participants of the seminar were introduced with local and regional development in the European Union (EU) and the case of Latvia by Andris Jaunsleinis, the EU expert and Member of European Committee of the Regions. Māris Pūķis, Senior Adviser of LARG, gave a presentation on local and regional governments issues in Latvia.

The other training seminar was organized for the board members of the NALAG, and the topic of the seminar was the importance of cooperation and exchange of experience between municipalities. Ligita Pudža, Adviser on foreign affairs of the LALRG, introduced participants with best practice in organising thematical cooperation networks between municipalities.

During the visit, Ligita Pudža also met with Madara Siliņa, Deputy Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Georgia, and discussed opportunities for cooperation and the project's contribution to the development of the local governments of Georgia.

The project "Network building for efficiency and development" is implemented by the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) in cooperation with the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments. The project  is supported by the European Union. Overall aim of the project is to enhance good governance and sustainable development on the local level in Georgia through capacity building and exchange of experience between Georgian municipalities. The project was launched on 1 February 2018 and will last until January 31, 2021.
