Focussing on Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027

24 to 25 October Commission for Territorial Cohesion Policy and EU Budget (COTER) of European Committee of Regions was held Brussels (Belgium), where several amendments to the Common Provisions Regulation submitted by the Latvian delegation to the next Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 were approved.

The proposal for a Common Provisions Regulation contains common rules for seven EU funds: the Cohesion Fund, the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund Plus, the Asylum and Migration Fund, the Border Management and Visa Facility and the Internal Security Fund.

The amendments tabled by Dainis Turlais, member the delegation of the Latvia to the Committee of the Regions (CoR) who also represents Riga City Council Security, Order and Anti-corruption Committee and the amendments tabled by several other political groups from the United Kingdom, Estonia, the Netherlands and Germany emphasize the importance of partnership with local authorities in the preparation of partnership agreements, as also in the preparation and implementation of programs, and in the work of monitoring committees.

As well as on 23 October, the Latvian delegation had the opportunity to meet Sanita Pavļuta - Deslandes, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Latvia to the European Union, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, to discuss current issues in the negotiations on the next Multiannual Financial Framework 2021- 2027. Also Sanita Pavļuta - Deslandes emphasized the interaction between national and European Union policies. Gints Kaminskis, the deputy Chairman of the Latvian delegation in European Committee of Regions and Chairmen of Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments (LALRG) during the meeting called on all the discussions with the European Commission and the EU member states to defend the interests of the Latvian municipalities, not forgetting their diversity and territorial differences.

Discussion with representatives of Latvian municipalities on the next Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 is scheduled to take place on November 1 in Riga at the LALRG Council meeting.
