Europe hears the activities of the Jaunpils Municipality in the implementation of the SDG

On 2 April, during the meeting of the European Committee of Regions’ Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (SEDEC) in Brussels Ligita Gintere, representative of the Latvian Delegation and Chairwoman of Jaunpils Municipality presented the activities of joint implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of Jaunpils Municipality and the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments to the politicians and representatives of European Commission. Activities have been carried out jointly with the children and youth of Jaunpils Municipality, covering a dual target group of children and their parents.

“We, the representatives of local governments, know that 65% of 169 UN Sustainable Development Goals can’t be achieved without proper involvement of local governments. By being closest to the people, we can best involve stakeholders and drive local development”, stressed Ligita Gintere. The successful idea of involving youth in localising SDG has been presented.

Also representatives from local governments of Europe had the opportunity to watch the child-made cartoon of the Animation Studio of Jaunpils Municipality “My adventures in the labyrinth of Sustainable Development Goals”.

Animation film is available in LALRG’s Youtube channel.
