Watch our music and art video devoted to development cooperation!

On 1 June - International Day for Protection of Children - the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments has released a music and art video devoted to development cooperation and made together with the municipalities of Kuldīga, Preiļi and Valka in Latvia, the municipality of Ozurgeti in Georgia and the municipality of Nizhyn in Ukraine! You can watch the video on the YouTube channel of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, section “Development Cooperation”!

At the heart of the idea there is Covid-19 and the impact of various restrictions on the mental health of children and young people. Pediatricians and psychologists in various countries are drawing the attention of politicians and the public to this problem, which is widely discussed in the European Union and the Eastern Partnership countries. For example, UNICEF has developed a number of strategies for young people to live in the “new normal”, inviting them to pursue a variety of extracurricular activities, find new ways to connect with friends or learn to do something new.

The Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments has been implementing development cooperation and education activities for more than 20 years and wants to encourage local governments to continue the implementation of cooperation activities also during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Municipalities are the closest level to population. They have extracurricular activity groups, educational institutions, so we wanted to use this opportunity and expand the cooperation that has already been successfully started with several municipalities in the creative field. Thus, the idea arose to unite children from the municipalities of Latvia and the Eastern Partnership countries in one joint activity, which this time is a joint performance of a Latvian folk song, illustrated by children's art works on the topic of environment. At the same time, such co-operation allows children to get involved in new activities and introduces children and their parents to development cooperation more,” revealed Mr Gints Kaminskis, the Chairman of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments and Bureau Member of the European Committee of the Regions’ Conference of Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP).

The video is illustrated by children's artwork on an environmental theme. You can watch all the works of art drawn and created in different techniques (even by using rice) by children and youth from Latvia, Georgia and Ukraine in the e-exhibition created by art teacher Mrs Ina Ozola!
