LALRG hosts the study visit of representatives of local governments and state administration from Kyrgyzstan

On 1 – 5 October the delegation of representatives from local governments and state administration from Kyrgyzstan visits Latvia for study visit, which is organised by the Latvia Association of Local and Regional Governments (LALRG) in the framework of the project "Development of Local Governments and Promoting Good Governance in Kyrgyzstan".

During the first two days of the visit the delegation had meetings at the LALRG with Gints Kaminskis, Chairman and Mudīte Priede, Secretary General and Māris Pūķis, Senior Adviser. LALRG representatives shared with guests the experience of LALRG in representing the interests of local governments, formulating a common vision and working together to establish a dialogue with the national parliament, government and all interested parties. The delegation had opportunity to visit the Saeima – the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia, where they met Sergejs Dolgopolovs, Chairman of the Public Administration and Local Government Committee of the Saeima.  They also visited the State Chancellery for presentation about government of Latvia where also met Māris Kučinskis, the Prime Minister of Latvia and Jānis Citskovskis, Director of the State Chancellery. Delegation also visited the Ministry of Finance.

The focus of the study visit is training on good practice in public administration, defence and representation of local government interests in the state and European Union institutions, the delegation of state functions to local governments and financing arrangements for the delegated functions.

The visit includes also a meeting with representatives of the Vidzeme planning region. Guests will visit also Amata, Rauna and Pārgauja municipalities, where they will meet local entrepreneurs.

On 3 October, the agreements on cooperation between three Kyrgyz and three Latvian municipalities will be signed to ensure sustainability of the project outcomes. From Latvia side agreements un cooperation will be signed by Elita Eglīte, Chairwoman of Amata Municipality Council, Evija Zurģe Chairwoman of Rauna Municipality Council and Hardijs Vents, Chairman of Pārgauja Municipality Council.

The LALRG implements the project "Development of Local Governments and Promoting Good Governance in Kyrgyzstan" which is funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia in 2018 from the budget of the development cooperation. The aim of the project is to facilitate good governance in Kyrgyzstan by strengthening the capacity of the local governments and the Association of Local Government of Kyrgyzstan.
