30th Congress meeting of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments

On 17 May the 30th Congress meeting of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments (LALRG) took place.

Congress meeting is the highest governing body of the Association and the year’s most significant and major event of our Association, which gathered representatives from 102 local governments of Latvia as well as state senior officials – President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis and Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece.

Ināra Mūrniece, in addressing the local government leaders, praised the contrubution of the LALRG, trssing that over the years LALRG has grown from small organisation to a great strength in shaping the state’s legislative position. “You are a large and influential organisation that has built on the strengthening of democracy in local governments. The LALRG is now an entity of power that has an impact on policy. It’s a privilege, but at the same time a lot of responsibility. Local governments are a huge force and the circulation of Latvia.”

Five new resolutions were also approved in his Congress meeting: “On the financial stability of local governments”, “Education resolution”; On regional development as the objectives of the National Development Plan 2027”, “On the administratively territorial reform”, “On the opportunity to act for the benefit of the population”.
