The President of Latvia agrees on cooperation with the Association of Local and Regional Governments

On 8 August President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Chairman of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments Gints Kaminskis in the Riga Castle by agreeing on further co-operation with the non-governmental organisation representing local governments of Latvia.

During the meeting, they paid great attention to the exchange of views on the government-planned administrative and territorial reform and the vision of local and regional governments on the future of Latvian regions, development opportunities, and provision of various services to the population of Latvia.

During the meeting, Mr Levits expressed his views on issues of democratic representation in municipal governance by strengthening belonging and responsibility of the population for the development of their residence.

The President of Latvia also expressed his support for debates on the possibility of election associations taking part in local elections.
