Project “Active debate of Citizens: they are the Heritage for the European Future”

Objective

The general objective of the project  is to stimulate citizens to dialogue and to shared solutions on the Future of the EU, to which European citizens are called to express their opinion in a very delicate moment for the fate of the EU.

Network of Towns promoted by Union of Municipalities Naxos and Taormina, (IT), with the involvement of partners from 16 Countries:

Activities

The project foresees the organization of 5 Meetings in Poland Wroclaw/Olesnica from 7 to 10 October 2021, in Malta Birgu from 26 to 29 January 2022, in Hungary

Budapest/Hévízgyörk from 19 to 22 April 2022, in Italy Taormina/Giardini Naxos from 8 to 11 May 2022 and in Czech Republic Prague from 26 to 29 July 2022.

shared solutions on the Future of the EU, to which European citizens are called to express their opinion in a very delicate moment for the fate of the EU. On 1 March 2017 the European Commission presented the White Paper on the Future of Europe, outlining the main challenges and opportunities between now till 2025. This is of great value for European society because it concerns the very foundations of the Future of the European peoples. In the “New Strategic Agenda 2019-2024” the European leaders have equipped themselves with the tools to face the challenges related to the EU future in the next five years. The Thematic Network wanted to be an exercise of participatory democracy, that places citizens at the center of the debate on the future of Europe, throughout the entire life of the project, in order to reinforce in them the meaning of belonging and defeat feelings of rejection or disinterest in the European institutions. The project foresees the organization of 5 Meetings in Poland Wroclaw/Olesnica from 7 to 10 October 2021, in Malta Birgu from 26 to 29 January 2022, in Hungary Budapest/Hévízgyörk from 19 to 22 April 2022, in Italy Taormina/Giardini Naxos
from 8 to 11 May 2022 and in Czech Republic Prague from 26 to 29 July 2022. The project involved more than 550 direct and 450 indirect participants.
The activities have been scheduled on: Presentation of EU frameworks, analyses, discussion on local impacts and experiences, Thematic Conferences, Interactive workshop, Seminars, Brainstorming, Surveys, Press conferences, Dissemination and Networking for the Future, World Café for the creation of a Policy Paper on "Europe Our Future" output of the project.

Location / Dates: The event took place in Wroclaw-Olesnica (Poland) from 07/10/2021 to
10/10/2021.
Short description: The aim of the event was to the Official presentation of the ActivEU project, of
the aims, objectives and partnership of the project. The launch meeting was held in the presence of
young people, students, citizens, institutional actors, experts on the issues, journalists and media,
local administrators.

The general objective of the project was to stimulate citizens to dialogue and compare each other to
seek together shared solutions on the future of the EU, understood as a common heritage to be
preserved against the feelings of rampant Euroscepticism that undermine the foundations of unity
and integration between peoples, founding values of the Union itself.
The topics of the 1st Event was focused, with discussions and debates on the main thematic
regarding Euroscepticism and sub thematic as scheduled: “The European Post Brexit Scenario”,
“Europe, Growth and Sustainable Development”, Focus on "White Paper on the Future of the EU".
The first event, held in Wroclaw and Olesnica (Poland) was conducted thought Presentation of EU
frameworks, analyses, discussion on local impacts and experiences, Thematic Conferences,
Interactive workshop, Seminars, Brainstorming, Surveys, Press conferences, Dissemination and
Networking for the Future. World Café for the creation of a Policy Paper on "Europe Our Future"
output of the project.
The project activities have been appropriate and consistent with the issues dealt with, clearly
elaborated in cooperation with the Consortium, sustainable and produced concrete and effective
results.
They were focused on the need to achieve the objectives set by the project in an interdisciplinary
and multisectoral perspective, and they had a simple and concrete approach that took into account
the cultural diversity of the various countries, individual characteristics, gender, geographical
differences, context factors.
An interactive and highly inclusive working methodology was used, implemented through an
innovative variety of working methods that were adapted to the needs and profile of the
participants, stimulating participation and sharing also in the elaboration of outcomes and strategies
of follow up.
The direct participants, as well as the indirect ones, were able to improve their awareness of the
issues addressed by helping to develop new forms of cooperation and the networking of the
organizations themselves.

Short description: The aim of the event was to the presentation of the ActivEU project, of the
aims, objectives and partnership of the project. The meeting was held in the presence of young
people, students, citizens, institutional actors, experts on the issues, journalists and media, local
administrators.
The general objective of the project was to stimulate citizens to dialogue and compare each other to
seek together shared solutions on the future of the EU, understood as a common heritage to be
preserved against the feelings of rampant Euroscepticism that undermine the foundations of unity
and integration between peoples, founding values of the Union itself.
The topics of the 3rd Event was focused, with discussions and debates on the main thematic
regarding Euroscepticism and sub thematic as scheduled: "Peace in Europe: the integration process,
treaties and enlargement"; “Challenges and Trends in New Europe - Cultural Competences”; "Who
are the Europeans". Interaction and comparison on the meaning of "European Citizen",
characteristics and peculiarities; "The Schengen Area: One of the most concrete achievements of the
EU"; Focus on "Europe without the UK: Liberated or Downsized?"
The third event, held in Budapest and Hévízgyörk (Hungary), was conducted thought Presentation
of EU frameworks, analyses, discussion on local impacts and experiences, Thematic Conferences,
Interactive workshop, Seminars, Brainstorming, Surveys, Press conferences, Dissemination and
Networking for the Future. World Café for the creation of a Policy Paper on "Europe Our Future"
output of the project.
The project activities have been appropriate and consistent with the issues dealt with, clearly
elaborated in cooperation with the Consortium, sustainable and produced concrete and effective
results.
They were focused on the need to achieve the objectives set by the project in an interdisciplinary
and multisectoral perspective, and they had a simple and concrete approach that took into account
the cultural diversity of the various countries, individual characteristics, gender, geographical
differences, context factors.
An interactive and highly inclusive working methodology was used, implemented through an
innovative variety of working methods that were adapted to the needs and profile of the
participants, stimulating participation and sharing also in the elaboration of outcomes and strategies
of follow up.
The direct participants, as well as the indirect ones, were able to improve their awareness of the
issues addressed by helping to develop new forms of cooperation and the networking of the
organizations themselves.
