Promotion of municipal and government cooperation and improvement of public administration in Kyrgyzstan

Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments has launched the project - Promotion of municipal and government cooperation and improvement of public administration in Kyrgyzstan.

Annually, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of  Latvia launches a grant project competition "Support for Development Cooperation Projects in the Beneficiary Countries Specified by the Republic of Latvia", providing financial support for the implementation of development cooperation projects in priority partner countries in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) and in Eastern Partnership countries of the European Union (Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine).

After evaluating the project applications submitted for the 2019 call for proposals, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allocated EUR 36 257.47 for the project "Support for Development Cooperation Projects in the Beneficiary Countries Specified by the Republic of Latvia" by the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments.

36 projects were submitted for the evaluation this year, which is the highest number of project applications since 2016.

The project aims to promote good governance in Kyrgyzstan by building institutional capacity in public administration. The project will provide an opportunity to continue the cooperation with the partners of the beneficiary country, as well as between the local governments of both countries, by transferring their experience and knowledge gained in the process of development and reform of Latvia.

The added value of the project is that the project is implemented jointly by several stakeholders - public and local authorities, civil society organizations and experts. The project will provide appropriate training to the Association of Local Authorities of the Kyrgyzstan, municipalities and public administrations, as well as develop recommendations for further development and effective management of local government development issues.

During this week of August, a visit of Latvian experts to Kyrgyzstan is taking place, while training of Kyrgyz public administration and local government representatives in Latvia is planned in the first week of October.

Adviser on Foreign Affairs of the LALRG
