Last week of September, five representatives of Gulbene municipality council celebrated their success at the competition "Euroepean Self-government of the Year 2012" in Brussels. Ms Antra Sprudzāne, director of Gulbene library, Ms Anita Birzniece, specialist of education, culture and sports department of Gulbene municipality council, Ms Svetlana Ziepniece, headmaster of Tirza lower secondary school, Ms Guna Švika, head of property and development department of Gulbene municipality, and Ms Velga Černoglazova, headmaster of Druviena lower secondary school – their visible and invisible, small and big works are now approved accross the whole country and distinguished also in Brussels, the capital of Europe!
Ladies from Gulbene visited LALRG representation Office in Brussels and EU Committee of the Regions, and met with Jānis Neimanis, member of the Latvian delegation to the EU Committee of the Regions, Councillor of Grobiņa municipality, and at presence get acquainted with his work at the meeting of the Territorial cohesion policy commission.
In addition, representatives of Gulbene municipality met with Ms Ille Allsaar, the head of the Brussels’ Office of self-government associations of Estonian cities and municipalities, and learned about the planned reforms of education system and teachers’ remuneration principles in Estonia.
The competition “European Self-government of the Year 2012”this year for the first time was organized by the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments in cooperation with EC Representation in Latvia, several line ministries and other cooperation partners. The competition will be organized on annual basis, focusing on the topic of the respective European Year. This year the competition was devoted to active, healthy aging and cooperation between generations.
