Sustainable Policy Planning for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Uzbekistan

On July 3, the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, in cooperation with the Nationwide movement YUKSALISH (Uzbekistan), started implementing the project "Sustainable Policy Planning for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Uzbekistan", which received funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the development cooperation budget. Main goal of the project: improvement of Uzbekistan's sustainable policy planning in the field of climate change by strengthening the capacity of local self-governments, raising public awareness of the socio-economic impact of climate change and promoting public involvement in decision-making.

Planned activities:

  • project kick-off conference and expert think tank;
  • expert mission in Bukhara and Surkhandarya region;
  • developing guidelines for integrated climate change and disaster risk reduction management for local communities and decision makers in Uzbekistan;
  • development of climate change adaptation plans for Bukhara and Surkhandarya regions;
  • training seminars to increase the awareness of the Uzbek public about the effects of climate change;
  • training of representatives of Uzbekistan in Latvia;
  • development of proposals for the improvement of legislation in the field of climate change mitigation and adaptation;
  • final conference of the project.

Implementation period: July 3, 2023 - November 30, 2024

The project received funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia in 2023 from the development cooperation budget.
